New York Philharmonic Musicians to Coach Student Chamber Ensembles and Perform at Hoff-Barthelson Music School

21st Annual Elaine Stamas New York Philharmonic Educational Residency set for April 24

Hoff-Barthelson Music School’s 2017 Elaine Stamas New York Philharmonic Educational Residency, featuring members of the New York Philharmonic, will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017, at the Music School, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale, New York. This program, held annually each spring, is named in honor of Elaine Stamas, who was a long-time supporter of the School’s Philharmonic program and member of the Board of Trustees.

About the Educational Residency:
Hoff-Barthelson’s chamber music program is a cornerstone of its performance curriculum; this season, 40 ensembles rehearse and perform at the School. Students at all levels of proficiency are encouraged to explore the unique pleasure of making music with their fellow musicians. The New York Philharmonic Educational Residency, now in its 21st year, gives twelve of these ensembles the opportunity to perform for Philharmonic members, who share their comprehensive knowledge of ensemble playing with these young musicians and guide them to a higher understanding of technique, musicianship and musical style.

Three members of the Philharmonic, Lisa E. Kim, violin; Rebecca Young, viola; and Mindy Kaufman, flute, will coach student chamber music ensembles from 3:45 – 5:45 pm.

The public is invited to observe the Educational Residency free of charge.

About the Performance:
A chamber music recital featuring fourteen members of the Philharmonic along with guest artist pianist Peter Serkin, will be presented at 8:00 pm. The recital program will feature Niccolò Paganini’s Duetto Concertante No. 2 for Violin and Bassoon, performed by Anna Rabinova, violin and Kim Laskowski, bassoon; Vincent Persichetti’s Serenade No. 6 for Trombone, Viola and Cello, performed by Rebecca Young, viola, Maria Kitsopoulos, cello, and Joseph Alessi, trombone; Adolph Busch’s Piano Quintet, performed by Kuan Cheng Lu and Lisa GiHae Kim, violins, Vivek Kamath, viola, Eric Bartlett, cello, and guest artist and grandson of the composer, Peter Serkin, piano. The recital concludes with a performance of Johannes Brahms’ String Quintet No. 1, performed by Lisa Kim and Shanshan Yao, violins, Robert Rinehart and Rémi Pelletier, violas, and Nathan Vickery, cello. Program and artists subject to change.

Admission to the recital is $28 general admission; $18 Seniors (65+); and free of charge for students. Program subject to change.
