New Rochelle Plays Hollywood: The Candidate
Starring Robert Redford, Melvyn Douglas, Peter Boyle. Directed by Michael Ritchie. (110 minutes).
This film provides one of the most realistic looks at a political campaign, from inception to completion, of any film dealing with the subject.
Robert Redford plays the idealistic son of a former Governor who is convinced to run for the Senate against a seasoned veteran Senator. The film cogently examines the reality, the compromises and the artifice of the political scene. Winner of one Academy Award.
