My Identity: A Mixed Media Workshop

In this workshop, young artists will create 2-dimensional works that explore their identities in different ways. First they will create a series of quick drawings of themselves from observation, practicing their drawing skills. They will choose one of their drawings as a final piece, and use it as a basis for a mixed-media self portrait that shows their personality and interests. They will create either an entirely abstract mixed-media self-portrait, or a more representational self-portrait using drawing and collage. Terms such as”identity,” “abstract” and “representational” will be discussed. Choice will be encouraged and instruction will be differentiated according to students’ individual needs and preferences.
