Musicians from the New York Philharmonic to Perform at Hoff-Barthelson Music School

Hoff-Barthelson Music School’s 2024 Elaine Stamas Chamber Music Residency, with musicians from the New York Philharmonic, will be held Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the Music School, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale, New York. The residency includes student master classes and a chamber music concert – a highlight of the residency – which the public is invited to attend.

About the Chamber Music Concert

Enjoy a rare opportunity to hear some of the greatest works from the chamber music repertoire performed by world-renowned musicians in an intimate setting. Beginning at 4:00 pm, the concert features violinists Anna Rabinova (Hoff-Barthelson faculty member), Alina Kobialka, and Quan Ge; violist Vivek Kamath; and cellists Ru-Pei Yeh and Quiang Tu. Joining the Philharmonic musicians is guest pianist Helen Huang.

Works to be performed are Franz Schubert’s String Quartet No. 9 in G minor, D. 173, and Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Trio No. 3 in F minor, op. 65.

Schubert’s G minor quartet is a testament to his mastery of the string quartet genre. The quartet is known for its lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and dramatic contrasts. Dvořák’s Piano Trio is a gem of the chamber music repertoire. It showcases Dvorak’s melodic inventiveness, rhythmic vitality, and folk-inspired themes.

“We are honored to host the Philharmonic musicians as part of the Elaine Stamas Chamber Music Residency,” said Executive Director Gabriella Sanna. “This residency offers invaluable musical inspiration and growth for our students while allowing the community to experience a world-class chamber performance.”

Tickets for the concert are $35 for general admission. Seating is limited; early reservations are encouraged and can be made at Eventbrite, www.hbms.org, or by calling the School at 914-723-1169.

Program and musicians are subject to change without notice.

About the Elaine Stamas Chamber Music Residency Master Classes

The Elaine Stamas Chamber Music Residency gives HBMS students the opportunity to perform for members of the New York Philharmonic who share their comprehensive knowledge of ensemble playing with these young musicians, guiding them to a higher understanding of technique, musicianship, and musical style. Three members of the Philharmonic – Anna Rabinova, violin and HBMS faculty member; Vivek Kamith, viola; Quiang Tu, cello; and guest Margaret Kampmeier, piano will coach student chamber music ensembles before the afternoon chamber music concert. The residency is named in honor of long-time supporter and member of the School’s Board of Trustees, Elaine Stamas.
