“Musart” by Joan Lengel

Harrison Council for the Arts presents “Musart” by Joan Lengel  at the Harrison Public Library, Halperin Building, 2 Bruce Avenue, Harrison on view May 31-June 30 with an opening reception on June 4 from 2:00 to 4:00pm.  Joan Lengel’s new exhibit, “MUSART” uses music as inspiration for her works. A mixed media artist, Lengel starts with a line drawing of a musician and uses digital techniques, layered Plexiglas and collage to create her compositions. The layered pieces create dimension and shadows that become part of the composition and draw the viewer in. Her palate is minimal so as not to distract the viewer from connecting to the subject.

Lengel’s art speaks to her interest and she finds her subjects from her life time experience with all kinds of music. “Musicians of Note”, a series on layered plexi and “Hail To The Chief”, a series of US Presidents that played musical instruments combine music and art to more powerfully communicate how each art form impacts our lives.

Residing in White Plains, New York and a member of several art organizations in Westchester, New York City and Connecticut, Joan continually strives to combine these two passions and stretch the limits of her work. To learn more about her work visit: www.notablesusa.com and joanlengel.com

Joan Lengel received an M.A. in Music from Lehman College and has taught music and art.  She has exhibited extensively in Westchester and Connecticut and has won many awards
