Local History Presentation: New Rochelle’s Role in the Great War
An extraordinary event of national importance occurred in New Rochelle 100 years ago this week. In tribute, City Historian Barbara Davis will give an illustrated presentation on “Recruit Week” and New Rochelle’s other unique roles in World War I. Our community was home to the largest military recruiting depot east of the Mississippi, and to a great number of artists involved in the first and monumental war propaganda campaign. These unusual circumstances, as well as New Rochelle’s relationship to La Rochelle, France, is revealed in the 60-minute program. Ossie Davis Theater. Free.
