LIVE @ THE STEAMER PRESENTS: THE RICARDO GAUTREAU DUO FEATURING DOUG MUNRO


OSSINING – The Ossining Arts Council (OAC) is pleased to present THE RICARDO GAUTREAU DUO: Featuring Doug Munro in concert on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 8 to 10PM.  The event will be held at the Steamer Firehouse Gallery, 117 Main Street, Ossining, NY.  Tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for OAC Members. are available at www.ossiningartscouncil.org and at the door.

Ricardo’s songs have won commendations from Billboard magazine and have been published in Broadside magazine. His new EP “Life Dance”, was released recently and has received world-wide acceptance. BEST OF WESTCHESTER MAGAZINE said “…They exemplify Global Fusion, for they are creating music that incorporates different traditions and styles to forge a sound that is beyond categories”. 

Ricardo is from the Dominican Republic, and comes from a musical family. His father was a composer/player with the legendary Machito, and numerous other Latin Jazz bands in NY. His brother Pablo was lead singer for Conjunto Melao; he wrote songs for Salsa stars Willie Colón, Adalberto Santiago and others. Ricardo’s son, Remy, continues the family tradition: he is a singer/songwriter. One of his songs has been in the Billboard Dance Top 40 and others have been featured in The Royals TV show and other programs.

Since 1987 Doug Munro has released eleven albums as a leader and has  performed in over 60 recordings as a sideman, producer, and arranger working with a diverse array of artists including Dr. John, Michael Brecker, and Dr. Lonnie Smith.  In the recording field Doug has received two Grammy nominations and two NAIRD awards.

Doug has written four books on jazz improvisation for Warner Brothers Publications and Alfred Music Publications, including From Swing to Bebop”, winner of the Music and Sound Retailers instructional book of the year award in 2000. As an educator Doug created and was Director of the Jazz Studies Program at The Conservatory of Music at Purchase College from 1993-2002. He is currently working with his Gypsy Jazz group La Pompe attack.
