“Life in Pyro” – The Art of Mujgan Agardici

S. Mujgan Agardici graduated from The Fine Arts Academy (Mimar Sinan University) in Istanbul – Painting Division – and she is also certified in Pedagogical Formation. She has worked as an interior designer and a teacher for many years. Her proficiency in art includes painting, miniatures, stained glass, and marbling (Ebru). Mujan taught herself pyrography, and has been consistently working on wood-burning artwork since 2015. Her passion is to elevate this technique to a Fine Arts form.

Pyrography – “writing with fire” from the Greek “pur” (fire) and “graphos” (writing) is the ancient method of creating beautiful and unique works of art that never fade. This art form (also known as pokerwork or wood burning) requires a strong sense of design and patience. Like the silverpoint drawings favorited by the Florentine and Flemish masters of the Renaissance—a mark, once made, cannot be erased.

Mujgan began her work in pyrography doing portraits and she now also includes other subject matter—both realistic and symbolic. Her current focus is on sepia works, which she creates using only an iron tool and a pencil. She’s fascinated with exploring light and texture in her work through the monochromatic palette.

Learning—and all things in nature inspire Mujgan’s art.

I still feel like a child who is excited about learning new artistic techniques, discovering different aspects of nature, and creating new projects. I love everything about nature, because nature is the finest of artists.
