Library Jazz Band Celebrates Stevie Wonder!
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Stevie Wonder’s landmark album Innervisions, the Untermyer Performing Arts Council is delighted to present Yonkers’ own Library Jazz Band performing original arrangement of the entire album. Tracks include Higher Ground, Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing, and Livin’ for the City.
Library Jazz Band is a 17-piece jazz orchestra made up of great players from Yonkers, Riverdale, and throughout Westchester. They love playing killer arrangements from the greatest big bands… and writing their own.
LIBRARY JAZZ BAND is a full 17-piece jazz orchestra including 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, and rhythm section – piano, drums, bass (upright and electric) and guitar. Many of their members have been long-time educators in area schools – Yonkers, Hastings/Dobbs Ferry, New Rochelle, Briarcliff and play in a variety of settings from high local pit orchestras to Broadway, perform and tour with major bands, and play regularly on the live music scene in NYC and Westchester.
Wonder’s Innervisions album is beloved by many, for its wide range of styles and the social issues it addresses. Their arrangements honor the originals, but reimagine them with big band flair. “Too High” will feature thrilling alto/tenor saxophone dueling solos; the funky “Higher Ground” will layer in an Afro-Latin groove; and “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” will have people dancing, and enjoying the excitement of a full sax section feature.
