“fix” – Works of Lara Apponyi

Lara Apponyi’s work consists of nine canvases based on bruises she observed on her body. She became intrigued by their changing nature and so began documenting each mark with a series of photographs, focusing on the spectrum of colors they bleed through as they heal and eventually disappear.

These magnified, fragmented flesh studies dissolve into many layered abstractions, where the line of the body becomes the horizon of an illusory landscape.

Lara was born in London, raised in Oxfordshire and has been living in New York for the past seven years. She studied at Parsons in Paris and then at City & Guilds of London Art School, graduating with a BA in Fine Art, specializing in painting.

Lara’s work consists of paintings and drawings made in sequence; creating series that explore implication by finding unexpected connections. She has illustrated published children’s books and creates bespoke wallpapers for private clients in London, Los Angeles, and New York.

Most recently, Lara has been working with Tory Burch designing prints for the SS14 collection. She showed her most recent work at Jack Chiles in SoHo, December 2013. This year, she will be collaborating with jewelry designer BEX ROX on an exciting new project.
