“Landscape: Remembering / Collecting Moments” Paintings by Silvia Gesing at the Harrison Public Library

Harrison Council for the Arts presents “Landscape Remembering / Collecting Moments” oil and pastel paintings by Silvia Gesing at the Harrison Public Library on view October 6 to November 1, 2019; meet the artist October 12 from 2:00 to 4:00pm.

As in all her life Silvia has enjoyed nature and the outdoors, it was a given that these should be the sources of her artistic inspiration and expression.  She has tried to capture the interplay between light and shadow, color, and the mood of a place rather than specific detail. Her landscapes, based mostly on scenic views of Rye Marshlands, Read Sanctuary and other local parks and conservation areas, reflect the calm, tranquility and solitude of the natural world.  It is her hope that her paintings will reveal to the observer a new beauty and a new way of seeing a particular place.

Silvia is largely self-taught, although over the years she has taken many courses in watercolor, acrylics, oil and pastel.  For a number of years she enjoyed the tutelage of the talented pastelist John B. Conroy. More recently, she has been working on developing her skills in oil painting under the guidance of Elizabeth Derderian and Joseph Fama at the Rye Arts Center.

Silvia is a member of the Art Society of Old Greenwich. She has exhibited in many shows, among them The Woman’s Club Beaux Arts, The Greenwich Art Society, The Art Society of Old Greenwich, The Marshlands, and The Rye Arts Center.  Her works have won many prizes and can be found in private collections in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

The exhibit may be viewed Mondays and Wednesdays 9:30am to 9:00pm; Tuesdays, Thursdays-, Saturdays 9:30am to 5:30pm and Sundays 1 to 5pm.  For info call the Library 914-835-0324 or see harrisonpl.org.
