La Casa Rossa: A Concentration Camp in Alberobello (Bari)

In collaboration with the United Pugliesi Federation, the Westchester Italian Cultural Center will be presenting La Casa Rossa: A Concentration Camp in Alberobello (Bari).

Learn about the undiscovered cultural heritage hidden among the secular trulli of Alberobello.
La Casa Rossa was originally an agricultural school, built towards the end of 1800 by a local priest. During World War II, it was turned into a concentration camp run by the fascist authorities. Many European and non-European citizens were deported there from 1940 to 1949. Among them were several artists, especially Germans, who left their drawings, paintings, and musical scores, artistic testimonies of their stay.
During the presentation, parts of the movie “Donne senza nome. Le Indesiderabili” (“Women Without Names. The Undesirable”) will be screened. Filmed in 1949 by the Hungarian director, Geza von Radvanyi.
