Kofi & Sankofa Drummers and Dancers
Dance | Family & Kids | Folk Arts | Music
Kofi has been drumming and performing internationally for over 30 years. He directs the African drum and dance ensemble Sankofa. He uses African culture in assemblies, lectures, performances, drum circles and traditional African Ananse (spider) stories to promote diversity in all cultures: in schools, communities, conferences as well as festivals.
Sankofa means “Going back to the roots”, in the Twi language of Kofi’s native Asante Kingdom in Ghana, West Africa. Back to roots has a spiritual and emotional meaning of finding your culture through modern and traditional art forms. The Sankofa bird appears to look both backwards and forwards. Honoring Asante history and traditions while moving forward into the future.
