Kickstart Your…Story Openings (Youth Workshop via Zoom)

Story openings have a monumental job. They entice your reader to continue reading! But what’s the best way to get their attention? Dialogue? Backstory? Setting? In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll write your own story opening from a prompt. Then, you’ll revamp it—once, twice, maybe even three times!—creating different effects with each revamp. Don’t worry—we’ll take a look at some story openings so you understand how different styles can change your piece. By the end of this workshop, you’ll see how your reimagined intros can alter tone, POV, pace, and more. Plus, you’ll leave with at least three variations of a story opening you can build on outside of class. Shake off the winter blues and spend a few hours writing, writing, writing!

This class is best suited to students aged 14-18. Writers of all levels are welcome. The only requirement is a desire to write.

Registration is $60 at:

The class will be held via Zoom. The Zoom link will be emailed at the time of registration. (Please check spam / promotions filters.) Please email ask@writerscenter.org with any questions.
