Joseph Ayers: Our Loss
The collection of work in this exhibit is an elegy that mourns loss of perception. In our hyper-evolving world a dichotomy between the material and the virtual is shifting the way we perceive and experience life. “Our Loss” reconstitutes fragments of simulated realities into physical remains. Haunting landscapes and grave figures offer poetic remarks on the loss of self, physical senses, perceptions, and natural resources. In my art I explore ways in which culturally formed expectations affect perceptions. My art questions the disparities and similarities between my subjects. Juxtaposing natural and fabricated elements causes a shift in perception, subtly unseating the psychological center of the viewer.
