Joe Lovano Classic Quartet + Judi Silvano

Bruce Lundvall, Blue Note Records: “When I saw Joe Lovano in Peter Erskine’s Band in the late 80’s, I offered to sign him on the spot. The first time I heard Joe Lovano I felt that he was the most creative and hard swinging tenor player I’d heard in years. Joe has emerged as a giant on his instrument and a full fledged giant of jazz.”

Joe Lovano is a Grammy-winning saxophonist, composer, and arranger. Down Beat magazine has twice named him Jazz Artist of the Year, and he scored a prestigious trifecta in 1998: nominations for Musician of the Year, Improviser of the Year, and Best Tenor Saxophonist in the New York Jazz Awards. He also topped both the Down Beat readers and critics polls as Tenor Player of the Year in 2000. Lovano has several albums as a leader and has appeared on dozens of other recordings. Lovano has collaborated with many legendary musicians, including McCoy Tyner, Hank Jones, Joshua Redman, Bill Frisell, Branford Marsalis, Jim Hall, and Paul Motian.

Judi Silvano is a singer and composer who has released 14 music recordings on Blue Note, Soul Note/ Black Saint, Zoho, Jazzed Media and JSL Record labels to critical acclaim. She has played and/or recorded with such artists as Kenny Werner, Jim Pepper, Bill Frisell, Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Steve Swallow, Paul Motian, Tim Hagans, Vic Juris, John Abercrombie, James Emery, Victor Lewis, Warren Smith, Newman Taylor Baker, Wynton Marsalis, Gunther Schuller, Manny Albam, and Michael Abene among others. See the Joe Lovano Classic Quartet + Judi Silvano on Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7 at 7 & 9 PM both nights at the Jazz Forum!
