Joanna Gleason: From Campfire to Cabaret

From a Tony Award-winning turn in Stephen Sondheim’s classic Into the Woods to roles in films such as Boogie Nights and Woody Allen’s Crimes and Misdemeanors to memorable TV appearances (for example as Rachel’s chain-smoking boss on Friends), actress and PAC Artistic Fellow Joanna Gleason brings something completely new to the PepsiCo Theatre stage – From Campfire to Cabaret.

In front of a live audience, Gleason will guide a select group of Purchase College students from the Theatre, Dance, and Music Conservatories in an evening of song that is part master class, part improvised musical theatre. Watch as the students become part of each other’s stories and new narratives develop. An aria, a ballad from Broadway, a jazz tune – the stories grow and the storytellers connect right before our eyes.

Says Gleason: “The performing arts disciplines (dance, song, music, spoken word) may seem quite removed from one another, but their common ground lies in the stories that they tell. A storyteller is a storyteller, regardless of the means of expression. Those who do it well allow us to see ourselves, and remind us that we are all essentially part of the same greater narrative.”

Seating is on the PepsiCo Theatre stage, space is limited.

Another session of this event will take place on April 30 at 8pm.
