Jewish Poetry Writing Workshop with Eve Grubin (Zoom)

|

How have poets brought Jewish imagery and themes into their work? How can you do so effectively? This course is open to anyone who is interested in reading and writing about Jewish  themes. In this workshop poets will engage with Jewish identity, Jewish history from ancient to medieval to modern, cultural Judaism, and religious Judaism and spirituality. Participants will also have the opportunity to read and write poems with language from the Hebrew Bible and other classic Jewish texts. In addition, topics such as Jewish nationhood, exile, diaspora, the Holocaust and intergenerational trauma, and Jewish ethics will be explored. The class will include a discussion of strategies and poetic techniques with prompts which encourage new poems. A variety of poems from poets who engage with the above themes will be discussed and we will write at least two of our own poems inspired by their work.
