International Women\’s Day: A Chamber Music Celebration!
On Sunday, March 8, RiverArts honors International Women’s Day with a special chamber concert featuring the work of six women composers spanning nearly two centuries, from Fanny Mendelssohn to living voices shaping classical music today.
Together, these works tell a powerful story of women composing boldly across generations, often without the recognition they deserved.
Under the artistic direction of cellist Peter Seidenberg, the musical program will include:
- Fanny Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio (1846)
- Amy Beach’s Romance for Violin and Piano Op. 23 (1893)
- Mel Bonis’ Soir et Matin for violin, cello, and piano (1907)
- Jennifer Higdon’s Piano Trio (2003 )
- Andrea Casarrubios’ Sonia for cello and piano (2023)
- Reena Esmail’s Saans (2017)
The celebrated Solace Trio—April Johnson (violin), Peter Sidenberg (cello), and Tomoko Uchino (piano)—will perform these distinct works and create an afternoon of unforgettable beauty and power.
