Humor Writing: An Intensive Workshop with Janine Annett via Zoom

Humorous writing can take many forms, including satire, essays, books, sketches, screenplays, and more. In this intensive workshop, Janine Annett will give an overview of different types of humor writing and jokes and will explore some of the dos and don’ts of writing things that are both funny and smart. We’ll discuss topics like punching up, the rule of three, ending on the funny part, tragedy + time = comedy, funny words and sounds, heightening, how to develop your own “funny bone”, where to read and publish humorous writing, and more. We’ll also work on brainstorming ideas for creating short humorous pieces and will workshop one of the ideas in greater detail as you start to develop it.
