Hudson Valley Music Club May Professional Concert

On Monday, May 21, at 1:00 PM, the Hudson Valley Music Club will present its May Professional Concert. Thomas Meglioranza, baritone, and Reiko Uchida, piano, will perform an all Schumann program. Mr. Meglioranza and Ms. Uchida will perform Robert Schumann’s Liederkreis op. 39, and several settings of Heine poems. Ms. Uchida will perform several solo Romances of both Clara and Robert Schumann. American baritone Thomas Meglioranza was a winner of the Walter W. Naumburg, Concert Artists Guild, Franz Schubert/Music of Modernity, and Joy In Singing competitions. A native New Yorker, Meglioranza graduated from Grinnell College and the Eastman School of Music.Described in The New Yorker as an “immaculate and inventive recitalist”, his Songs from the WWI Era program was named one of the “Top Ten Best Classical Performances of the Year” in the Philadelphia Inquirer. His discography includes three acclaimed albums of Schubert lieder and French mélodies with pianist Reiko Uchida, songs of Virgil Thomson with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and Bach cantatas with the Taverner Consort.Reiko Uchida is a pianist of rare poetic quality. While she commands a formidable technique, it is always her spiritual connection to the music that projects. Ms. Uchida has performed extensively as recitalist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Asia and Europe, in venues including Suntory Hall, David Geffen Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the 92nd Street Y, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Kennedy Center, and the White House. First prize winner of the Joanna Hodges Piano Competition and Zinetti International Competition, she has appeared as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Santa Fe Symphony, Greenwich Symphony, and the Princeton Symphony, among others.

Audience members are invited to a reception after the concert to enjoy food and beverages and the opportunity to speak to the artists.
