Hudson Valley Music Club April Mostly Morning Concert

On Tuesday, April 10, at 11:00 AM, the Hudson Valley Music Club will present its Mostly Morning Music concert. Featured will be the CUNY Renaissance Singers and friends: and Joan Nelson, soprano and Judith Soffer, piano. The CUNY Renaissance Singers will perform selections from Henricus Isaac’s (d.1517) Choralis Constantinus: Introit, Alleluia, Sequence, and Communion from the Mass for Pentecost. Ms. Nelson and Ms. Soffer will perform works by Copland and Amy Beach.
The CUNY Renaissance Singers are an informal group that meets biweekly at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center to sing Renaissance music from copies of original sources. Ruth DeFord, a Music Club board member, is editing the music that will be performed.
Ms. Nelson is a graduate of Oberlin College with a BA in vocal performance. She has sung with the Aspen Opera, the Aspen Choral Institute, and the Des Moines Opera Theatre. She is currently a soloist with the Temple Beth Shalom Choir. In this capacity she appears regularly in programs throughout the year. She has sung with Angelica, a women’s chamber choir, and presently sings with Chrysalis. Her teachers include Ruth Wolpert, Daniel Miller (while at Oberlin), Daniel Ferro and presently Josephine Mongiardo. Ms. Soffer is a graduate of Hunter College and received a Master of Music degree from New York University. She studied with Herbert Stessin at the Juilliard School, Zenon Fischbein at the Manhattan School of Music, and Elizabeth Rich. She presently studies with Jennifer Tao. Judith is devoted to playing chamber music as well as solo works. She teaches privately at her studio in Katonah. Judith is also Program Chair for the Professional Series of the Hudson Valley Music Club.
