In 1921, a young shoemaker is consumed with dreams of leaving his home in rural Mississippi for the excitement of Chicago, but tragedy befalls them on the way to the promised land. Many years later, his dreams unfulfilled, he and his wife discover the true price of his ambition. Their future becomes uncertain as they are forced to confront the demons of their past and the emptiness of their present.

Joshua Allen, a native of Chicago, is currently a co-executive producer on the Emmy-winning Fox TV series Empire and is developing new programming under a deal with 20th Century Fox Television. His other plays include Boy in a Blue Tweed Suit, Chrysalis, and The October Storm.His work has been developed at the Cape Cod Theater Project, Primary Stages, the Lark Play Development Center, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He is also an alum of New Dramatists, the Ars Nova Play Group and the Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group at Primary Stages. Joshua is a graduate of the University of Southern California and the Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwrights Program at The Juilliard School.
