He’s unstoppable. The reigning King of the Boss Tenor Sax Houston Person turns 91 on November 10 and he’s been a celebrated torchbearer of soul jazz for nearly 60 years. He’s toured nonstop and released over 85 albums.
His tone has gotten bigger even as his delivery has mellowed. Reviewing Houston’s performance at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley in Seattle with the Emmet Cohen Trio last April, Justin Sanchez of KNKX radio wrote, “The music felt timeless.”
