Harrison Public Library Presents “ORDER/DISORDER” by Jennifer Cadoff

After working as a magazine editor and writer for many years, Jennifer Cadoff earned a BFA and returned to art full time.  She was an invited artist in “America Through Artists’ Eyes” (2014-2015) at the New Jersey State Museum, and “Jersey Women Artists Now: Contemporary Visions” (2014) at Montclair State University.  Since she moved to Westchester County, NY, Jennifer’s work  has been selected for the national PAPER (2019) show at Silvermine Galleries in New Canaan, CT, and received an award from Jennifer Farrell, Associate Curator of Drawings & Prints at the Metropolitan Museum.  Her work has been chosen three times for Art of the Northeast (2017-2019), also at Silvermine; and was included in Nor’Easter (2019) at the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, CT.  During COVID, Jennifer’s work has been featured in online exhibits of the Hudson Valley Museum of Contemporary Art (HVMOCA) in Peekskill, the Hammond Museum in North Salem, the New Rochelle City Hall Rotunda Gallery, and the Katonah Museum of Art as a featured artist member.  See her work at www.jennifercadoff.com and on Instagram @jcadoff.

Artist’s Statement:

I am a works-on-paper on paper artist, making abstract drawings and cut-and-pieced artworks that range in size from miniature to monumental. I work most often with archival ink pens  – and sometimes with watercolors – on smooth, sturdy 140-pound hot-press watercolor paper.  The drawings are built through the slow accretion of simple, repetitive shapes and marks, which tests the limits of concentration, and reveals every wobble and hesitation of the pen. The pieced artworks are first drawn, or painted, then cut and assembled, in a similar methodical, bit-by-bit fashion.  Both types of work explore the tension between order and disorder, micro and macro, density and vacancy – maintaining the semblance of control through the grid, the square, the repetition of the mark.
