Great Traditions: Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars at Emelin Theatre
From the ashes of a bloody civil war come perhaps the most unexpected and inspiring voices to emerge in world music in the past two decades. Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars launched their first tour when, displaced from their homes, trying to keep hope alive, a small group of musicians began traveling from camp to camp, performing for their fellow refugees. They have since travelled the world, earning praise and backing from Sir Paul McCartney, Keith Richards, Angelina Jolie, Ice Cube and others captivated by their life-affirming music.
