Grace in Motion: Photographing Dance Mt. Vernon
Grace in Motion: Photographing Dance melds two vibrant artistic mediums, performance art and visual art, through the captivating works of established local photographers, Stephanie Berger, Ira Block and Ellen Crane.
Stephanie Berger has photographed the performance arts in some of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world including Lincoln Center of Performance Art, Carnegie Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Her work takes the audience into the studio and onstage, showcasing the sculptural and graceful quality of the dancers’ body. Ira Block as a photographer for National Geographic has witnessed and photographed traditional performances around the globe, capturing the cultural significance, universality, and vibrancy of dance within his work. Ellen Crane, a dancer turned photographer, has photographed for publications such as The New York Times, The Village Voice, New York Magazine and Dance Magazine. In her work Crane draws the viewer into the beginning of a dancer’s journey with sensitivity to the emotive and ephemeral nature of dance. These renowned artists’ celebrate and immortalize the vibrancy of dance through their photography; their work is open for public viewing within the Mt. Vernon’s Public Library’s Rotunda Gallery
