Gallery Opening Reception: Vivian Maier Revealed: Selections from the Archives

Madelyn Jordon Fine Art is pleased to present Vivian Maier Revealed: Selections from the Archives. This exhibition will run from June 14 – August 11, 2018, with an opening reception on Thursday, June 14th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

This survey exhibition features a broad selection of black and white photographs by American street photographer Vivian Maier (1926 – 2009), mostly taken in the 1950’s – 1960’s.  Unknown during her lifetime, Maier worked as a full-time nanny while pursuing photography during her leisure time.  These candid images provide a glimpse of the lives and experiences of everyday people during the post-war golden age in Chicago and New York.  Depicting ordinary people caught in a transient moment, Maier’s indelible images capture the rich and poor, the young and the old, whites and blacks.  She also turned the camera on herself in a series of striking self-portraits.  Discovered by John Maloof in 2007 in a Chicago auction house, Maier’s photographs have been exhibited internationally and received significant critical attention.
