Gallery exhibit – In Residence: New York

Bullseye Resource Center New York has hosted eight resident artists since opening in 2013. Residencies are awarded to artists and designers who are approaching kiln-glass for the first time, exploring new avenues of glass research, or are interested in pursuing work that isn’t possible in their own studios.

In Residence: New York gathers the varied and dynamic work of three recent residents, providing a glimpse into the research and exploration made possible in a material-based studio residency. Nisha Bansil is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer. Her glass work is based on the observation of the environment. “Skins, bones, mushrooms, leaves, rocks and fossils are sources of research,” says Bansil. During her residency, she focused on corrugated pâte de verre forms cast from folded paper. Nancy Bowen is known for mixed-media sculptures and drawings that offer “a poetic commentary on our quickly changing material culture.” Mitchell Visoky began translating his encaustic paintings into kiln-glass just before beginning his residency. Working with photographs and his own silhouette, Visoky explores universal ideas of identity through layers of imagery, color, and texture.
