Focus on Women’s Issues: Dating Violence

The Zonta Club of New Rochelle, in partnership with NRPL, invites young adults to join in a conversation about dating violence, following the viewing of two powerful, 30-minute programs from the Emmy award winning PBS teen series, “In the Mix”: Dating Violence: Twisted Love and Abusive Relationships: Get Help, Get Out. Teens from cities, small towns and suburbs nationwide–regardless of background–have spoken out during “In the Mix” discussion sessions and the results are astonishingly consistent: more than 90 percent have asked for programming on dating violence. Dating violence profoundly affects their lives and their friends, yet they feel isolated and powerless, with nowhere to go for information and help. Experts emphasize that it must be addressed early to prevent a life-long patternThese documentaries heighten awareness and understanding of the problem, help young people recognize early signs of trouble and show them what they can do to get help. Discussion and refreshments will follow the viewing. Free. New Rochelle Public Library’s Ossie Davis Theater and Meeting Room.
