Flash Memoir: Telling A Big Story in A Small Space with Jennifer Lang in person at HVWC

How do you write a whole story in a compact space, under 1000/750/500/250 words? Regardless of the number, the goal is to create a complete narrative. In this workshop, we’ll examine flash memoir and learn how to write brief, descriptive, thought-provoking prose in response to prompts. Some of the writers discussed will be Ron Riekki, Anne McGrath and Nina Boug Lichtenstein. The workshop is open to writers in all genres, all levels.

NB: This class will be taught in person at HVWC and will be capped at 15 students. Please review the course policies page before registering for any classes. Please email ask@writerscenter.org with any questions.

Born in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jennifer Lang lives in Tel Aviv, where she runs Israel Writers Studio. A Pushcart Prize and Best American Essays nominee, she holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts and serves as Assistant Editor for Brevity. Often findable on her yoga mat–practicing since 1995, teaching since 2003–with her legs up her living room wall. Places We Left Behind: a memoir-in-shorts will be published in September 2023 and Landed: a yogi’s memoir in pieces & poses in October 2024 (Vine Leaves Press).
