Finding the Right Home for Your Poetry

In this 6-week workshop, Amy will help poets figure out their poetry style, how to organize a publishing notebook or expand the one begun in Spring’s magazine publishing class, develop a beneficial writing life and community, and evaluate the editorial interests of poetry presses, with and without contests. This class is useful to the poet who has either a chapbook or full-length collection manuscript ready to submit, or will have any ready within the year. Some attention will be given to evaluating the literary journals, a market poets always need to read and submit to, but the main focus is in figuring out what different presses consider a complete and publishable chapbook or collection to be, and what they offer to the poets they publish. We will talk about pitch letters, creative ID, and the importance of readings, book parties, book reviews, grants and fellowships. Participants will have a chance during the workshop to share poems for evaluation of style.

Tickets for this 6-class series are $370. There is a discount for HVWC members — please call or see out website for details!

Please give a call to the HVWC to enroll at 914-332-5953. We can pro-rate sessions within this workshop series in order to accommodate latecomers.
