Faculty in Concert: An Intimate Evening of Chamber Music at Hoff-Barthelson
Featuring chamber works by Ravel, Rutter, Schumann, and Brahms
Hoff-Barthelson Music School (HBMS) proudly presents the third concert in the 2025-26 HB Artist Faculty Concert Series on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 7:30 pm, in the School’s Joan Behrens Bergman Auditorium.
The HB Artist Series showcases the artistry of Hoff-Barthelson’s distinguished faculty. Presented in Scarsdale, these concerts offer listeners an up-close encounter with exceptional performances, underscoring the School’s enduring commitment to musical excellence and cultural enrichment in Westchester County.
“The HB Artist Series is a celebration of the remarkable musicianship that lives within our faculty,” said Gabriella Sanna, Executive Director of the School. “Sharing the stage with colleagues allows our teachers to model artistry at the highest level for our students and community.”
Program and Performers
Menuet Antique – Maurice Ravel
A graceful early work that reflects Ravel’s fascination with classical forms, infused with luminous harmonies and refined elegance – Donna Elaine, flute; Rie Matsumoto, piano.
Suite Antique for Flute and Piano – John Rutter
Warmly melodic and rhythmically buoyant, this suite unfolds through six contrasting movements—from the stately Prelude to the playful Rondeau—highlighting color, lyricism, and wit – Donna Elaine, flute; Rie Matsumoto, piano.
Kreisleriana, Op. 16 – Robert Schumann
A deeply expressive piano cycle inspired by literary imagination, Kreisleriana alternates between impassioned intensity and poetic introspection, revealing Schumann’s mercurial inner world – Pam Goldberg, piano.
Piano Quartet in G minor, Op. 25 – Johannes Brahms
A cornerstone of the Romantic chamber repertoire, this quartet blends sweeping lyricism with driving rhythmic energy, culminating in the exhilarating Rondo alla Zingarese – Nurit Pacht, violin; Peter Seidenberg, cello; Katsura Tanikawa, piano; with guest artist Daniel Panner, viola.
