Exodusters: Hank Willis Thomas

The Gordon Parks Foundation 2019 Fellow Hank Willis Thomas will debut a new series of work this October at the Foundation. Marking the 50th anniversary of Park’s groundbreaking debut film, The Learning Tree (1969), Exodusters draws upon archival behind-the-scenes photographs from the film’s set to examine the representation and depiction of history.  Opening with a public reception on October 25, Exodusters will be on view at the Foundation’s exhibition space through December 20, 2019, and admission is free. The exhibition was developed as part of Thomas’ work as a recipient of the 2019 Gordon Parks Foundation Fellowship, which supports creatives in the development of new or ongoing projects that explore themes of representation and social justice in dialogue with Parks’s creative work and vision.
