EXHIBIT: Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Observances from Mexico

The ninth annual Day of the Dead observance presented by Calaveras y Diablitos artists features  ancient traditions such as an ofrenda (altar), huge papier-mâché figures, tissue paper cut-outs, marigolds, and other symbols celebrating late loved ones. There’s always an incredible contemporary spin on this amazing exhibit, which will be on view in the library’s Lumen Winter Gallery during regular library hours.

Sunday, November 1, 2:00 – 4:00 pm: Day of the Dead Crafts All ages are invited to create an array of traditional symbols and crafts. 5:30 pm – 6:15 pm: Mexican Dance Performance by Calpulli Dance Company students, Ossie Davis Theater.

Monday, November 2, 6:30 – 7:15 pm: A free performance by the extraordinary group of Aztec dancers, Atl-Tlachinolli, will begin in the Ossie Davis Theater and conclude at the offrenda. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis, to the capacity of the Ossie Davis Theater.
