Emerson String Quartet “Final Bow” Concert Opens Concordia Conservatory’s 2023-24 Hoch Chamber Music Series

Emerson String Quartet’s “Final Bow”

Opens the 2023-24 Hoch Chamber Music Series

Bronxville, NY – To open the Hoch Chamber Music Series’ 20th season, Concordia Conservatory presents the Emerson String Quartet in its Final Bow Concert on September 23 at 6 pm at The Reformed Church of Bronxville, 180 Pondfield Road.

For more than four decades, the Emerson String Quartet, named “America’s greatest quartet” by Time Magazine, has maintained its status as one of the world’s premier chamber music ensembles. Since its start in 1976, the Quartet has made more than 30 acclaimed recordings and has been honored with a variety of esteemed awards including nine GRAMMYs® (two of which were for Best Classical Album) the Avery Fisher Prize, three Gramophone Awards, and Musical America’s “Ensemble of the Year” award. They have worked with some of today’s most revered composers to premiere new works, and have partnered with soloists such as Renée Fleming, Evgeny Kissin, Emanuel Ax, and Yefim Bronfman, to name a few.

This Westchester County concert, at Concordia Conservatory, is one of the final performances and last opportunities to see the Emerson’s during their Farewell Season, which has included performances in major concert halls across the United States and Europe.  Their closing  concert will take place at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center on October 22 and is already sold out.

Lawrence Dutton, the Emerson’s violist, has served as Artistic Director of Concordia Conservatory’s Hoch Chamber Music Series for 20  years, creating a world-class chamber music series with an eclectic mix of repertoire and artists. This performance marks the Emerson’s fifth appearance on the Hoch Series.

To help our audiences engage more deeply with chamber music, the Conservatory is hosting a pre-concert lecture  at the Bronxville Public Library at 5:15 pm. The lecture will feature Director of Publications for the New York Philharmonic, Ed Lovett.

The Quartet, which takes its name from the American poet and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, balances busy performing careers with a commitment to teaching, and serves as Quartet-in-Residence at Stony Brook University.  Building on this commitment and to captivate a new generation of chamber music enthusiasts, the Conservatory is inviting 100 area high school string students to attend the concert free of charge.
