Music from Copland House is back — live — in Westchester! And the ensemble is featuring six rising-star composers, who will take us on a bracing adventure to the frontier of new music! This exhilarating program offers the World Premieres of brand new works commissioned by Copland House, and created by the 2023 Fellows especially for our widely-acclaimed, annual CULTIVATE emerging composers institute (directed by two-time Grammy-nominee Derek Bermel). The creative impulses for these highly imaginative, sometimes provocative compositions range widely:  the written word (a poem by the iconic Langston Hughes, a line in one of Marilyn Monroe’s diaries), issues of identity (cultural background, homeland, placemaking), and the complexities of communication and connection (conversation, human interrelationships, the basic building-blocks of music). Hear — and meet — these gifted young composers, who are on the fast-track for next-gen musical leadership: (clockwise from upper left) Henry Dorn, Seare Farhat, Oswald Huỳnh, Maya Miro Johnson, Grace Ann Lee, and Max Vinetz. MCH’s fearless CULTIVATE artists are clarinetist Moran Katz, violinist Pala Garcia, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach, and pianist Margaret Kampmeier.
