Class: Kilncarved Plates

This short workshop is a great introduction to fusing, kilncarving and slumping. After selecting a pre-fused square piece of glass, you’ll cut designs out of fiber paper using an Xacto knife. When your design is complete, you’ll set the glass on top.

In the heat of the kiln, the glass softens and takes on the contours and textures of your design. This process is called “kilncarving.” This firing takes place after the workshop, as does a separate slump firing where the flat kilncarved piece takes on the plate profile show above. Your finished piece will be available for pickup a few days after class.

Comments from past students:

  • “I’ve been able use these basic concepts in my own work.”
  • “Even though this was all new to me, I went ahead and made a second piece during the same class.” (Extra fee required to make additional pieces.)

No previous experience necessary.
