May is National Preservation Month, a national initiative to share the stories of historic places across the country! Join us as we celebrate a collection of the area’s historic buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of architecturally and historically significant buildings worthy of preservation.
Found within the Larchmont to Port Chester area is the oldest surviving home in Westchester County, the first planned amusement park in the country, one of the skinniest houses in America, a “George Washington Slept Here” building, and many more designed by talented architects. Several of these buildings are included in the Register as Landmarks, the highest level of significance awarded in the country!
From the comfort of a charter bus, you will see an almost complete collection of the area’s National Register of Historic Places as your tour guide shares with you the people and stories connected to each place and its interesting architectural features. You will also get an up-close look at several of these buildings, including some special interiors, and hear from the community members that are working to keep these buildings preserved and vibrant!
The tour will depart from the Mamaroneck commuter lot on the corner of Station Plaza and Jefferson Avenue.
