Among the last players standing from the post-WWII generation of greats, saxophonist Billy Harper flew under the media radar, but the jazz community knows he’s a true original. After apprenticing with Art Blakey, Lee Morgan and Max Roach, he’s led his own groups and remains integral to the hard-bopping All-Star septet, The Cookers.

The NY Times recently praised “his singular sound, which summons the urgency of John Coltrane and the power of the Black church.”
