Axial Theatre of Pleasantville will showcase six original one-act plays that offer an offbeat take on February’s celebration of love and lovers in the theatre company’s fourth annual Twisted Valentines Festival running two consecutive weekends, February 9-11 and 16-18.
This year’s plays, selected under the direction of Linda Giuliano, the company’s Associate Artistic Director/Literary Manager, from a record-breaking pool of submissions, are:
Love at Worst Sight, by Ed Friedman, directed by Robin Anne Joseph with Dawn Brown-Berenson and Patrick McGuinness.
Love is blind for two singles seeking the Good Housekeeping Seal of ethnic approval.
More Myself Than I Am, by David Gill, directed by Catherine Banks with Marilyn Collazo and Michael Boyle, Jr.
Finding your soulmate is not always a good thing, even on the moors.
Fraught, by Evelyn Mertens, directed by Susan Ward with Lori Franzese and Tiberio Saraceno.
The long and winding road holds a surprising detour for this December – May couple of legal eagles.
Fix, by John Patrick Bray, directed by Catherine Banks with Susan Ward and Duane Rutter.
In a complex world, two friends discover keeping it simple means taking it one second at a time.
Miss Pudding Doesn’t Work Here Anymore, by Lisa Kimball, directed by Virginia Reynolds with Catherine Banks and Anthony Barresi, Jr. Whipped takes on new meaning for a latte regular and his erotic instructor.
Worlds Apart, written and directed by Wayne Paul Mattingly, directed with Jason Beckmann and Quinn Warren.
Liminal time, the space between what is and what is becoming: two young people face the threshold.
Performances will take place on Friday, Feb. 9 and 16 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 10 and 17 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 18 at 4 p.m. on the campus of St. John’s Episcopal Church, 8 Sunnyside Ave., Pleasantville, New York 10570.
