Author Talk: Christine Coulson’s Metropolitan Stories

Hidden behind the Picassos and Vermeers, the Temple of Dendur and the American Wing, exists another world: the hallways and offices, conservation studios, storerooms, and cafeteria that are home to the museum’s devoted and peculiar staff of 2,200 people—along with a few ghosts.

Hear from a writer who worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for more than twenty-five years, as she reads from her enchanting novel, Metropolitan Stories, that shows us the museum the public doesn’t see. Christine Coulson has written a surreal love letter to the private side of The Met in which the powerful voices of the art itself are heard. Her stories reflect the personal relationships fostered by museums between the viewer and the work of art.

Following the reading, enjoy a conversation between the author and Hudson River Museum Director Masha Turchinsky and join them at a book signing and festive reception and toast in Glenview.

Free with Museum admission. RSVP required.
