Artist Talk: Public Art “Triquetra for Healing”

The latest installment of The Rye Arts Center’s Public Art Initiative, Triquetra for Healing by Julia Sinelnikova, gives us just one more reason to spend some time outside before it gets cold.

Triquetra for Healing was installed in front of The Rye Arts Center on Friday, October 5 and will remain on view through the fall of 2018. All are invited to join us for a free Artist’s Talk with Julia Sinelnikova on Thursday, October 25, 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

Ranging from seven to ten-feet-tall these three modular hand-welded steel sculptures have curvy legs and large flat discs at their centers. Each centerpiece has transparent colored acrylic panels that are modeled after geographical borders and inspired by both the concept and design of the “mandala”. The panels create healing light patterns that filter to the ground in a stained-glass effect.

Triquetra for Healing represents the power of unity and healing. It aims to bring neighborhood residents of all ages together to enjoy the alluring light effects from the sun.

“Transparency and light are key elements in my sculptural work, in both concept and technique. Living in a world greatly controlled by technology, I utilize transparent sculpture elements and light play as a metaphor – intangible structures controlling physical space, just as digital functions control human life. The development of immersive environments which can be interacted with by the audience is my primary artistic focus, in an age when art is increasingly presented in 2D and digital formats.” – Artist, Julia Sinelnikova

Sinelnikova is an interdisciplinary artist who works with holograms, performance, and digital culture. Her light installations have been exhibited internationally, and she has performed widely as The Oracle of Vector Gallery. She has received commissions from NYC Parks Department, Pace University, Michael Madden (Maroon 5), and more. Selected profiles of her work have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, VICE, Artnet, Huffington Post, and more. Her work has been presented at the Contemporary Art Museum of Houston, The Oulu Museum of Art, and Williamsburg Art & Historical Center. She holds a BFA in Sculpture from The Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY). She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

This installation is part of The Rye Arts Center Public Art Initiative, spearheaded by local artist, Bob Clyatt. This program is made possible by grants from ArtsWestchester, The New York State Council on the Arts, and The Westchester Community Foundation, and through the generous support of hundreds of donors and members.
