Artist Talk – Northern Lights and Astro Photography: Observatory Construction and the Process of Astrophotography

Mr. Nammacher’s photographs are taken from his up-state observatory (Starmere) and two remotely operated observatories (one in Australia and the other in New Mexico).  He has been photographing nebulas, galaxies, along with cloud and gas regions, and more local solar system targets since the early 2000s.  He recently photographed a spectacular show of the aurora borealis (northern lights) from Churchill, Manitoba, just south of the Arctic Circle.

He will be discussing the design and construction of his observatory and the process of astrophotography and the many steps involved in getting to a final picture.  He has an exhibition going at the library from March 2nd to March 28th.

He will also bring a solar telescope for viewing by attendees, if the sun is out.   See his website for his works.
