Artist Talk: Amanda Simmons

Simmons will talk about her residency at North Lands Creative Glass led by Steve Klein and Richard Parrish and how it led to working with powders and larger vessel forms she exhibited at SOFA Chicago in 2013. She’ll also share insights into technique and inspiration and where she’s headed with her next glass experiments.

“People have collected objects every since we have had somewhere to put things. I’m interested in our emotional responses to contemporary objects and the connection we build with inanimate items. The starting point to all my work is that connection, either with an emotion, colour, written word or music. From there, I will investigate how others have looked at the same notion, making a visual representation of my research and reactions often leading to more questions.”
