ARTISTS IN THE MARKETPLACE

How to get Gallery Representation

Join us for a conversation with Bridget Donahue of Bridget Donahue Gallery, Marc Straus of MARC STRAUS, and Miguel Abreu of Miguel Abreu Gallery about the do’s and don’ts of approaching galleries with artwork. Through a panel discussion these gallerists will offer firsthand insights into the representation process detailing their own experiences with contemporary art on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

Each panelist will discuss their gallery history as they have worked to create relationships with their artists, as well as what type of work they look for, how they have been approached by artists, and how they have discovered artists they represent. This unrivaled access into the inner workings of a gallerist’s methods will reveal how they view their own role in these processes and answer the who, what, where, when and how of securing gallery representation.

This unique program will be followed by a Q & A session for even more insight. Guests are advised to secure tickets in advance.

Bridget Donahue Gallery – Driven by a desire to share the full meaning of artist’s work, Bridget Donahue Gallery has risen to prominence since its inception in 2015. A unique and diverse programming schedule has positioned the gallery as a major storyteller with a wide audience. A tireless advocate for her artists, Bridget Donahue’s approach combines instinct and idea to create a strong platform for her artists, some of whom have gone on to exhibit at the Whitney Biennial, as well as other major museums and art fairs.

MARC STRAUS – Listed as one of FlashArt’s top 100 galleries in the world, MARC STRAUS has worked since 2011 to create a dynamic roster of international artists. In addition to identifying and fostering new international talent, MARC STRAUS has worked to discover – and re-discover – older artists, giving them a platform in their fully reconstructed four-story historic building. MARC STRAUS artists have had works collected by institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Musée Centre George Pompidou Paris, and been featured in the Venice and Prague Biennales, as well as international art fairs.

Miguel Abreu Gallery

Opened in 2006, Miguel Abreu Gallery has functioned as a hub for one-person and curated group exhibitions, as well as incisive lectures and film screenings from world-renowned philosophers and directors. In a move to showcase large-scale installations, the gallery expanded into a second 8,000 square foot space in 2014 just two blocks from their initial Eldridge Street location. Their roster features many New York artists, in addition to national and international artists. Their publishing division – Sequence Press – has been a driving force in collaborative artistic projects. Miguel Abreu participates in the most prestigious art fairs in the world
