Art Exhibition: “Sigillaria”
“Sigillaria”
Visit show: December 6 – January 8
A colorful and cheerful exhibition is on view now through January 8, 2023 at Chroma Fine Art Gallery in Katonah. The mood inside Chroma is one of festive commemoration that unites past, present and future. “We have had such a nice year,” says owner/ curator/ photographer Rita Baunok. “There is so much to celebrate as we wrap up 2022 and look forward to welcoming 2023!”
The 25 exhibiting artists reflect a wide range of local talent. 23 of the artists have already exhibited at Chroma, and the remaining two are slated for exposure in the new year. The show will feature the work of: June Ahrens, Jen Badalamenti, Vincent Baldassano, Rita Baunok, Moshe Bursuker, Patrick J. Cicalo, Bruce Dunbar, Pratibha Garewal, Marilyn D. Glass, Oscar Hammerstein, Inness Hancock, Joshua 2, Arnold Kastenbaum, Alissa Leigh, Jacqueline Lorieo, Rita Maas, Jean Morley, Vanessa Pineda Fox, Ruth Raskin, Andrea Rowan, Kelly Schwark, Robert Spinazzola, Greg St. John, Michael Summers and Mitchell Visoky.
The exhibition’s title, Sigillaria, refers to small clay or wax figurines which were given as traditional gifts by the ancient Romans during the month of December. In the spirit of the season, many artful treasures can be found for $100 or less, which makes Chroma the perfect place to find unique gifts (while supporting the local art scene)! You’ll find paintings, mixed media works, hand-pulled prints, photographs, sculptures and glass art. “There is a wide range of work, as you can imagine,” Baunok explains of the 25 featured artists. “But they are united by the abundance of talent and creativity in this region, and that is something we celebrate all year round.”
