Art Exhibition: Homage
“Homage”
Visit show: February 7 – March 12
Chroma Fine Art Gallery is pleased to present a new show which seamlessly blends past and present. The sculptures of Ricardo Arango and the paintings of Sergey Stepanenko will be on view in the aptly titled exhibition, Homage, now through March 12.
Ricardo Arango, a Brooklyn-based sculptor originally from Colombia, works in a range of mediums including ceramics, steel, and glass. He explains, “the diverse qualities of materials excite my imagination – the flexibility of clay, the rigidity of metal, and the fluid nature of fired glass.” Arango’s contemporary creations reference the past, with sources ranging from ancient Etruscan hand mirrors to geometric abstractions reminiscent of 20th century artist Kazimir Malevich. Arango collaborated with Thomas Lollar on works that were selected for inclusion in the Venice Biennale 2022.
Sergey Stepanenko is a painter who was born in USSR and grew up in Kyrgyzstan and Crimea before moving to the United States in 1995. His career in fine art was shaped by additional experiences as a muralist, art restorer and book designer. With a fresh perspective, radiant surface quality and bold, painterly brushstrokes, Stepanenko’s work pays homage to some of art history’s most beloved painters, including Vermeer, Velasquez and Goya. Stepanenko’s compositions may borrow motifs from the Old Masters, but his works are wholly original. His paintings, which are included in the collections of presidential and royal families, rock stars and celebrities, nod to the past while standing firmly in the present.
