ART BENNETT MEMORIAL CONCERT
Join us for a special jazz program honoring the life and music of White Plains saxophonist and flutist Art Bennett. The program will feature performances by William Parker, Harold Smith, Juma Sultan, Adam Siegel, Michael Bessio, Alan J. Palmer and many others.
Art Bennett, born and raised in White Plains, was active in the NYC ‘Loft Jazz’ movement in the 1970s and continued to play with spirit and style until his passing in 2021. He performed with greats, including Lonnie Liston Smith, Rashied Ali, Roy Brooks, James “Blood” Ulmer, William Parker and Marion Meadows, as well as many musicians in the free jazz art movement. Bennett was also a member of the New York Musicians Organization (NYMO), which secured grants to provide musical education programs, recording opportunities and concerts throughout the five boroughs of New York City. His recording highlights include the Aboriginal Music Society, and Harold Smith’s “Flight to Sanity.”
