What is the Strait of Gibraltar? This important waterway is a natural passage from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. It is located between the southernmost part of Europe (Spain) and the northwesternmost part of Africa (Morocco), and is the only natural link between an open ocean and inland sea in Europe. The eastern entrance of the waterway features the Pillars of Hercules, two large land formations on either side of the strait. The European side boasts the Rock of Gibraltar, while the African side hosts Jebel Moussa, or Mount Moses in Arabic. The Strait of Gibraltar is one of the busiest passages in the world.—study.com
